As it turns out, you have to downgrade Quicktime to an old version to make it work. I bought Myst Anniversary Edition for my son, who loves puzzles. Unfortunately, all I get is a black screen with a hand and no option but to kill the window. If you do, you can't run Itunes.Don't buy the game. Sorry, there will be other games, this one's a ripoff.
Only Myst III Exile can even run on OSX, and you have to install Rosetta Stone to do it. This game is listed as being Mac compatible, but it only runs on mac OS 9. It is absurd to call it mac compatible when OS9 hasn't been sold in years. Extremely deceptive. I would be returning this product if my wife didn't happen to have an old PC to run it on.BOOO.
This game is a must for those who love adventure games, and mind challenges. Hours of fun. This particular version of the myst game suits very well for Vista. The graphics are beautiful. I will be playing it again in the future. Loved every minute of it.
I recommend Myst to everyone. Great games. Beautiful scenery. Someone who enjoys puzzle solving will love this game. For people that like action or shooting games, or have very little patience, I would stay away.
They are still very much playable, and WELL WORTH THE MONEY.If you are having trouble with the Myst games at first, just keep at it. I had never played Myst before this, though I had an inkling of how the game played. Install the game normally (I installed them one at a time).2. Run the game. These games are a little unstable, though I had a minimal amount of problems. This will run fine on Windows XP or a Mac as far as I can tell. I loved these games, Riven especially. One issue that some people may worry about is compatibility with Windows Vista.
I had to struggle with it a little until I figured out the trick. Since I think everyone should play these games, if you have Vista and want this to run:1. I recently decided to go back and play the entire Myst series from the beginning, starting with this set. This game uses Quicktime as a major component, and newer versions of Quicktime just don't really work.3. Install the Quicktime that comes with the DVD for each respective game (Quicktime 6.__, I believe).4. You do NOT need to run it in compatibility mode, as it will give errors if you do.Another word of advice: Save often. I literally had a shiver run up my spine during certain parts because of the music. If you enjoy these games, I would recommend the rest of the Myst games as well, though I have not gotten to Uru yet (but have heard great things about it).I hope that my review was helpful. If you have the chance, I recommend listening to the game with headphones, because it is a lot more immersive.
Well, I have completed all three of the games now, and what an experience. Unraveling the mysteries and puzzles and exploring this beautiful world is such a reward for a little frustration and confusion. Uninstall any Quicktime version that is on your computer. It is free to get Quicktime off the internet so you can get it afterwards. Experiment too, because each game has a few endings (only one is the -right- ending, but you can see the other cinematics too - save often). The images are stunning (especially considering when these were made), the puzzles are engaging, the soundtrack is FANTASTIC, and the storyline twists and turns in intriguing ways. Enjoy.
